Shining metal

I’m currently going through all my parts to see what needs to be replaced, what needs restoration and what can just be bolted on (not much in that last category I’m afraid.)

One of those items that I have been looking at is the head of the steering column – it the piece of aluminium that joins the steering column with the steering wheel hub, and with the built in indicator arm and the ignition switch.

I have never seen it anything else than satin black and it was my intention that it was going to be the same on my ’69 beetle. But once I started sanding it down in preparation for paint I got the idea to sand it down all the way and polish it in stead. And that’s what I ended up with. The result can be seen below – judge for youself.
